DOPPIA VESSEL

Doppia is a multi-purpose vessel designed to work perfectly as a vase or a carafe, 3D printed from recycled bioplastic. The idea for a universal vessel stemmed from observations that vases, jugs and carafes are often used for the same purpose of containing or pouring - Doppia explores how a singular design can perform these everyday tasks without compromise.

A key design feature of Doppia is its large dual-spout, which helps the vessel to sit comfortably in hand when carried or poured, while allowing small and large flower bunches to splay evenly over a compact footprint. Combining the dual spout with a large conical base creates an intuitive form with maximized functionality, intended to work with and complement the many living spaces we inhabit today.

Available in ‘Clear’ or ‘Amber Yellow’ colours, the vessel’s durable yet lightweight mono-material shell is 3D printed from a recycled bioplastic.

A multi purpose vessel, created for modern living

Having used 3D printing frequently as a prototyping tool, I was interested in designing a commercial 3D printed product which would benefit from the material properties of recycled plastic filament. 

During early printing tests, I found that these recycled filaments share similar optical qualities as glass, a material often associated with vases and carafes, while providing better durability and strength to maximize the vessel’s lifespan.  As a robust container and a pourer, that can also stack several glasses when carried, Doppia is equally at home in residential or commercial spaces.

Each Doppia Vessel can be 3D printed to order, from selected facilities in the UK or mainland Europe. Remote additive manufacturing networks enable products to be produced more locally to customers, which can reduce shipping costs, import tariffs and lead times. This process provides a new model for how products can be more consciously designed, manufactured and delivered in our current geopolitical climate.
